Cellphone use while driving not just a young driver problem

There are many assumptions individuals might make when it comes to distracted driving. One is that using a cellphone while driving is something mainly young drivers do. A recent study points to this assumption being quite a bit off.

The study, which was by Harris poll and for Volvo, involved a survey of adults. The survey was done in early June. Among the things the respondents were asked was whether they use their cellphone while they are driving.

The youngest of the individuals surveyed in the study were from Generation Z. These individuals were in the 18-24 age range. Around 71 percent of the drivers from this generation reported using a phone while driving.

While this number is high, it is actually noticeably lower than that of some of the older age groups. Among both the millennial drivers (ages 25-34) and the Generation X drivers (ages 35-45) surveyed, 81 percent said that they use their cellphone when behind the wheel.

Also, the study found cellphone use while driving to be pretty common among parents. Close to three-fourths of the parents surveyed reported engaging in this behavior.

So, as this illustrates, distracted driving is a common problem for drivers across the board. This underscores how important distracted driving prevention steps are, not just for young drivers, but for all drivers. What do you think are most effective strategies for drivers to avoid getting distracted behind the wheel?

When individuals are hurt by a distracted driver of any age, pursuing fair compensation might help them get the resources they need for their recovery.
